Paynes Army and Navy, traditional liquorice flavoured sweets. Unusually soothing to the throat. They used to be known as Paregoric and allegedly contained Camphorated Tincture of Opium - must have been very more-ish! The Army and Navy reference is apparently due to the fact that they had medicinal properties which assisted the troops in the First World War.
£1.99 for 250g
May contain colours and flavourings. But definitely not Camphorated Tincture of Opium!
An absolute classic for all lovers of British liqorice. Hard sticks of shiny black liquorice, shaped like an oar with the word "Bassetti" imprinted on the flat bit. Perfectly designed for dipping into a bag of Sherbet (or Kali if you're from north of Watford or even Keli if you're north of the border!)
